Govt Committed To Spurring Economic Growth

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 (Bernama) --Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's presence at three economic programmes today reflects the government's commitment and seriousness in spurring the country's economic growth amid challenging global economic conditions.

The prime minister began his working day with the official opening of the new Ministry of International Trade and Industry's (MITI) building before meeting young Bumiputera entrepreneurs.

He later visited the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), which was developed by Naza TTDI Sdn Bhd.

This reflects cooperation between the government and the private sector in generating growth, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Department.

The launch of the 31-storey MITI Tower in Jalan Sultan Ahmad Haji Ahmad Shah here is a testimony of the government's efforts in spearheading the growth of international trade and industries.

In his speech, Najib stressed the need for government agencies such as the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority to monitor the quality of investments in order to remain relevant in the current economic conditions.

He called for ongoing efforts to boost the country's exports.

While mingling with some 600 Tunas Usahawan Belia Bumiputera (TUBE) participants, he encouraged them to seize business opportunities and make entrepreneurship a way to change their life.

The statement said the prime minister is committed in bolstering the economy and appreciate the involvement of all stakeholders from the public and private sectors in boosting growth.

Najib hails all initiatives and programmes arrayed to help raise the income of the bottom 40 per cent (B40) of the households, it added.
